Adélie Land (Terre Adélie in French) is a sector of Antarctica claimed by France. It is located between 136°E and 142°E longitude. Think of it as a French territory on the bottom of the world. It's primarily covered in ice and snow and is a site for scientific research. Adélie Land is named after Adèle Dumont d'Urville, wife of the French explorer Jules Dumont d'Urville. It's known for its harsh climate and penguin colonies.
