Definition
An amanuensis is a person employed to write or type what another dictates or to copy documents. Essentially, it's a secretary or scribe, someone who takes dictation. While the role is less common now due to technology, it was vital historically for writers, scholars, and leaders. 🖋️ Unlike a ghostwriter who crafts original content, an amanuensis simply records or transcribes. Think of them as the human voice recorder of the past.
