Definition
Ametabolic describes insects that do *not* undergo metamorphosis, meaning they don't have a dramatic change in form during their life cycle. They hatch from eggs looking like miniature versions of the adults. Think of silverfish π β young silverfish resemble small adult silverfish. Itβs different from metabolous insects, like butterflies, that have distinct larval and pupal stages. Ametabolic insects simply grow larger and molt. This simpler developmental process is seen in more primitive insects. Itβs a contrast to the more complex transformations seen in other insect groups.
