Definition
*Anostraca* is an order of crustaceans that includes fairy shrimp and brine shrimp. These creatures are characterized by their lack of a carapace (a shell-like covering over the head and thorax). They swim upside down using their numerous leaf-like appendages. Think of them as the acrobats of the crustacean world, gracefully flipping through the water. They are often found in temporary pools and salt lakes.
