Definition
"Antitrade" is a shortened form of "antitrade wind," referring to the high-altitude winds blowing opposite the surface trade winds 💨. These winds move from west to east in the tropics. They are part of the upper-level return flow of the Hadley cell circulation. Antitrade winds are important for global heat distribution. Although 'antitrade wind' is the full term, 'antitrade' is sometimes used for brevity. Remember that they are upper-level phenomena.
