Definition
"Anura" is the scientific order that includes frogs and toads. These amphibians are characterized by their lack of a tail in their adult form (the name means "without tail"). They have long hind legs adapted for jumping and swimming. They undergo metamorphosis, starting as aquatic larvae (tadpoles) and transforming into terrestrial or semi-aquatic adults. Anura is one of the most diverse groups of amphibians. They inhabit a wide range of environments worldwide.
