The Battle of Cunaxa, fought in ancient Babylon in 401 BC, was a pivotal clash in a Persian civil war. It pitted Cyrus the Younger against his older brother, Artaxerxes II, for the Achaemenid throne. While Cyrus's mercenary army, largely composed of Greek soldiers, won the battle itself, Cyrus was killed in the fighting. His death effectively ended the rebellion, making Cunaxa a Pyrrhic victory for his forces. Think of it like winning the game but losing your MVP player.
