Definition
Berber refers to a group of closely related languages and cultures indigenous to North Africa. The Berber people stretch from Morocco to Egypt and south to the Sahara Desert. It's more like a collection of languages and cultures rather than just one thing. Berber languages have a long history, predating the arrival of Arabic in North Africa. Think of Berber as a diverse group of cousins, each with its unique dialect and traditions. The term 'Berber' is sometimes used interchangeably with 'Amazigh,' which is the preferred term by many Berber speakers.
