Definition
The blastopore is the opening that forms during gastrulation in embryonic development. πͺ It's the opening into the archenteron, which is the primitive gut. In some animals, like protostomes, the blastopore becomes the mouth. In others, like deuterostomes (including humans), it becomes the anus. So, itβs a critical point that determines the basic body plan. It's a literal gate to the developing digestive tract.
