Definition
The bursa omentalis, also known as the lesser peritoneal sac, is a pouch-like cavity located behind the stomach. It's formed by folds of the peritoneum. Think of it as a hidden pocket behind your stomach! It allows for movement of the stomach and other organs. It provides a space for fluid accumulation in certain conditions. The omental bursa is connected to the greater peritoneal cavity via a small opening called the omental foramen.
