Definition
Carapidae is a family of ray-finned fishes, also known as pearlfish or fidiids. These slender fish are known for their unique habit of living inside other marine animals. They often reside in the body cavities of invertebrates like sea cucumbers, starfish, and oysters. Some are parasitic, feeding on their hosts, while others are commensal, sharing the host's food. Think of them as the freeloading roommates of the sea, always finding a cozy (if unconventional) place to crash. Their bodies are usually elongated and tapering, making them well-suited for squeezing into tight spaces. They're not exactly the party animals of the ocean, but they're certainly interesting.
