Definition
The *cardinal vein* is a set of embryonic veins present during early development. These veins are essential for the formation of the venous system. Think of them as the construction crew π· of the circulatory system. They eventually give rise to major veins like the superior vena cava and the inferior vena cava. These veins are not present in adults, as they are replaced by other venous structures. They represent a critical stage in vascular development.
