A CD-R (Compact Disc-Recordable) is a type of CD that allows you to write data to it once. Think of it as a digital piece of paper that you can fill with information, but once it's written, you can't erase or change it. CD-Rs were popular for creating music mixes, backing up files, and storing photos. They use a special dye layer that is permanently altered by the laser in a CD writer. CD-Rs are a write-once, read-many (WORM) storage solution.
