Chang'an, meaning "Perpetual Peace", was the ancient capital of China during several important dynasties, most notably the Tang dynasty. It was one of the largest and most cosmopolitan cities in the world during its peak. Think of it as the Rome or New York of its time, a hub of culture, trade, and political power. Its influence extended far beyond its physical boundaries, shaping East Asian civilization. Sadly, today very little remains of the ancient city, but its legacy lives on in history books and archaeological findings. It was like the OG metropolis!
