Definition
Chlorococcales is an order of green algae that are primarily unicellular and non-motile (they don't swim). They come in a variety of shapes, from spherical to elliptical, and reproduce asexually through the production of autospores (miniature versions of themselves). They are common in freshwater habitats like ponds and lakes and play a role in primary production. Unlike some other green algae, they don't form filaments or colonies. Think of them as lone wolf algae.
