Definition
A coal chute is a sloping channel or passage through which coal is delivered, usually from a truck or rail car into a basement or storage bin. ๐ณ๏ธ It's like a gravity-powered slide for coal. Coal chutes allowed for efficient and relatively clean delivery of coal. They were especially common in urban areas where space was limited. Imagine a water slide, but for black rocks instead of humans. Now, they are mostly relics of the past.
