Definition
The coronal suture is a fibrous joint that connects the frontal bone (forehead) to the parietal bones (top of the skull). Think of it as a seam running across the top of your head, from ear to ear. It's an immovable joint, providing stability to the skull. This suture allows the skull to grow during childhood and fuses in adulthood. Unlike synovial joints, the coronal suture doesnβt allow for much movement. It's like a permanent weld holding two important skull bones together. Without it, your forehead wouldn't be securely attached to the rest of your skull.
