Definition
Cownose rays are a type of ray easily recognized by their distinctively shaped head, which resembles a cow's nose. They are migratory animals, often found swimming in large groups or schools. These rays are graceful swimmers, propelled by their wing-like pectoral fins. Unlike stingrays, cownose rays have a relatively small stinger. They feed mainly on shellfish and small invertebrates. Their unusual head shape helps them locate food buried in the sand.
