Definition
Cynipidae is the scientific name for a family of wasps known as gall wasps. These wasps are small and specialized, primarily known for inducing galls on plants, especially oak trees. A gall is an abnormal growth or swelling of plant tissue, formed in response to the wasp's egg-laying activity. Different species of cynipid wasps cause different types of galls, varying in shape, size, and color. Galls provide shelter and food for the developing wasp larvae. They're like tiny apartments built by the plant, under the influence of the wasp. π³π
