A dayfly is another name for a mayfly, an insect belonging to the order Ephemeroptera. The name "dayfly" emphasizes the incredibly short lifespan of the adult stage. They typically only live for a few hours to a day. Dayflies spend the majority of their lives as aquatic nymphs before emerging as adults.
