Definition
A "diverging lens" is a lens that spreads out (diverges) rays of light that pass through it. Think of it as a lens that makes light rays go their separate ways. 👓 It is also known as a concave lens. Diverging lenses are thinner in the middle and thicker at the edges. They are used in eyeglasses to correct nearsightedness (myopia), as well as in telescopes and other optical instruments. The image formed by a diverging lens is always virtual, upright, and smaller than the object.
