Definition
Domestication is the process of adapting wild plants or animals for human use, through selective breeding and control. This involves altering their behavior, physiology, and genetics over generations to make them more amenable to living with and serving humans. Think of dogs, bred from wolves to be loyal companions, or crops like wheat, cultivated from wild grasses. Domestication provides humans with food, labor, and companionship, but also involves responsibility for the care and welfare of these organisms. The process typically results in organisms that are dependent on humans for survival.
