Definition
The Douay Bible is an English translation of the Bible made from the Latin Vulgate. Think of it as the Catholic Church's main English version before more recent translations. It was translated by English Catholic scholars in exile in Douay, France, in the late 16th and early 17th centuries. This was during a time when Catholicism was outlawed in England. So it was kinda like a secret weapon 🛡️. It was intended to provide English-speaking Catholics with an authoritative version of the Scriptures. It differs from other English Bibles, like the King James Version, which were based on the original Hebrew and Greek texts. It has two parts: the Douay-Rheims New Testament and the Douay Old Testament.
