Definition
Douglas fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii) is a widely distributed evergreen conifer native to western North America. These trees are known for their rapid growth and towering height. They are important timber species and are also used as Christmas trees. 🎄 Unlike true firs, Douglas firs have cones that hang downwards. They are named after David Douglas, a Scottish botanist who first described them. Think of them as the giants of the forest!
