Definition
A dry nurse is a historical term for a woman who takes care of a child without breastfeeding them.๐ผ Unlike a wet nurse, who would breastfeed the child, a dry nurse provided all other childcare needs. This included feeding, bathing, and nurturing. It was common in times and places where mothers couldn't or wouldn't breastfeed. Think of it as a nanny before modern formula existed. They ensured the baby's wellbeing, sans the milk.
