Definition
East Tocharian, also known as Tocharian A or Agnean, refers to one of the two known Tocharian languages, an extinct branch of the Indo-European family π£οΈ. It was spoken in the Tarim Basin (modern Xinjiang, China). Think of it as one branch of a linguistic family tree π³. East Tocharian was primarily used for religious and literary texts. Compared to West Tocharian, it was less commonly used for administrative purposes. Understanding East Tocharian helps us reconstruct the history of the Tocharian people and their language.
