Definition
Family Xiphiidae consists of swordfish, recognizable by their elongated, sword-like upper jaw. These solitary, fast-swimming predators inhabit tropical and temperate oceans. Swordfish use their bills to injure or kill prey. Xiphiidae is a unique group within the billfish family. The family has only one extant (living) species. Think of them as the lone wolves of the deep sea. 🐺
