Definition
Fasciolidae is a family of trematodes, or flukes, that includes important parasites of livestock and humans. These flukes are characterized by their large size and their ability to infect the liver and bile ducts of their hosts. The most well-known member of this family is Fasciola hepatica, the common liver fluke. Infections with Fasciolidae can cause significant economic losses in agriculture due to reduced productivity and increased mortality in livestock. Think of them as the mafia bosses of the parasite world, ruling the liver with an iron fist 😠.
