Definition
The fibula is the smaller of the two bones in the lower leg, located on the lateral (outer) side. It runs parallel to the tibia (shinbone). While it's not as weight-bearing as the tibia, the fibula is crucial for ankle stability and muscle attachment. Think of it as the tibia's supportive sibling. It connects to the tibia at both the knee and ankle. The fibula is essential for a wide range of movements.
