A 'flanker back' is a now somewhat archaic term for a type of offensive player in American football. This is very similar to a tight end or a running back, who lines up slightly behind the line of scrimmage and to the side (the flank) of the formation. Their duties involved blocking, running, and occasionally catching passes. They acted as a versatile offensive weapon. It's like a Swiss Army knife on the football field. 🏈 While the term is less common now, the role still exists under different names. They combine the roles of multiple positions.
