Definition
The fovea centralis is the central, thinnest part of the fovea, located within the macula of the retina. It's the area of sharpest vision and highest cone cell concentration. This small pit is responsible for detailed, color vision and allows us to see fine details. Light directly hits the photoreceptors here, maximizing visual acuity. Blood vessels and other cells are displaced to the side to allow unimpeded light access. Think of it as the 'bullseye' within the bullseye of your eye.
