Definition
A gametocyte is a cell that divides by meiosis to form gametes (sperm or egg cells). It's essentially a 'parent' cell destined to create reproductive cells. There are two types: spermatocytes (male) and oocytes (female). Think of gametocytes as the 'raw material' for creating the next generation. They ensure genetic diversity through meiosis. They are the starting point for sexual reproduction. π§¬
