The genus Stentor comprises a group of trumpet-shaped, single-celled ciliates. Imagine a tiny, translucent trumpet floating in the water! πΊ These organisms are found in freshwater environments and are among the largest single-celled organisms. They use cilia to create currents to draw food into their "mouth." Stentors can also contract into a ball shape when disturbed. They're like the drama queens of the microscopic world! π Unlike most other cells, some can regenerate into a complete organism from a small fragment.
