Genus Tamandua refers to a group of anteaters commonly known as tamanduas. They are medium-sized anteaters found in Central and South America. Tamanduas are semi-arboreal, spending time both in trees and on the ground. They possess prehensile tails that aid in climbing. These anteaters have a distinctive odor that they use for defense. Their diet consists primarily of ants and termites, which they obtain using their long, sticky tongues. Two main species exist within the genus Tamandua.
