Definition
Genus Vorticella describes a group of bell-shaped ciliates that live in aquatic environments. π Think of them as tiny, upside-down bells attached to surfaces. Theyβre usually found in freshwater and are often attached to plants, algae, or even small animals. Each vorticella has a stalk that it uses to attach itself. The stalk can contract, allowing it to quickly pull itself closer to its anchor point. They capture food particles using cilia around their 'bell'.
