Definition
The giant anteater is the largest species of anteater, easily recognizable by its long snout and bushy tail. These animals are native to Central and South America, where they roam grasslands and forests in search of ants and termites. They have powerful claws used to tear open insect nests. A giant anteater's tongue can extend up to two feet long, covered in sticky saliva to capture prey. They are mostly solitary creatures, often seen wandering alone. Giant anteaters play an important role in controlling insect populations.
