Definition
A glottal plosive, also known as a glottal stop, is a consonant produced by completely closing the glottis (the space between the vocal cords) and then releasing the air abruptly. It creates a brief, abrupt sound, similar to a hiccup but controlled. This sound is represented phonetically as /Κ/. It's commonly found between syllables or words starting with a vowel, though speakers rarely notice it. It functions to separate sounds clearly.
