Definition
The gray whale, *Eschrichtius robustus*, is a baleen whale famous for its extensive migrations. These whales travel between Arctic feeding grounds and warm breeding lagoons off the coast of Baja California. They lack a dorsal fin, having only low ridges along their backs. Gray whales are mottled gray in color and feed on bottom-dwelling organisms. Think of them as the long-distance truckers of the ocean, constantly on the move. They are more akin to rugged explorers than fancy cruise ships.
