A 'harvest mite' is another name for the larval stage of mites in the genus Trombicula, better known as chiggers. They're called 'harvest mites' because they're most active during the harvest season, usually late summer and early fall. These tiny creatures attach to the skin and cause intense itching. They don't burrow but feed on skin cells. Think of them as unwanted party crashers during your outdoor adventures. Unlike vampires, they don't suck blood, but their saliva leaves you with itchy souvenirs. π
