A heterophil antibody test looks for specific antibodies in your blood to help diagnose infectious mononucleosis (mono), also known as the 'kissing disease.' These antibodies, called heterophil antibodies, are produced by your immune system in response to the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), which causes mono. Think of it as searching for specific clues left behind by the virus. The test can help confirm if your symptoms, like fatigue, fever, and sore throat, are due to mono. Early diagnosis is important to manage symptoms and prevent complications. A negative test doesn't always rule out mono, so further testing might be needed!
