Definition
Homo habilis, meaning 'handy man,' is an extinct species of early human from the Early Pleistocene. They lived in Africa and are known for using primitive stone tools. Homo habilis had a slightly larger braincase and smaller teeth than earlier hominins. They represent an important step in human evolution, bridging the gap between australopithecines and later Homo species. Think of them as the early adopters of technology in the human family. They were the first to use tools, just like early adopters of new smartphones.
