Hugo Grotius (1583-1645), also known as Huig de Groot, was a Dutch jurist, philosopher, theologian, and is widely regarded as one of the founders of international law. He championed the idea of natural law, arguing that certain universal principles should govern relations between nations. His work emphasized reason, justice, and the peaceful resolution of conflicts. Think of him as the architect of modern international relations. He set the standard for many things.
