Definition
1 Esdras, also known as 3 Esdras in some traditions, is an apocryphal book found in the Septuagint and Vulgate versions of the Old Testament. It contains an alternative version of the historical books of Chronicles, Ezra, and Nehemiah. 📜 The book presents a different perspective on the rebuilding of the temple in Jerusalem. 1 Esdras includes the story of the 'Three Youths' who debate the greatest power in the world before King Darius. The book sheds additional light on post-exilic Jewish history. It is considered non-canonical by most Protestant denominations.
