Definition
Intrinsic refers to something that is inherent or essential to the nature of a thing. It's a quality that belongs to something from the inside, not added from the outside. Consider it the opposite of extrinsic, which is something added on. Intrinsic value is value something has in itself, regardless of external factors. For example, the intrinsic value of friendship is the joy and support it provides, not what you can gain materially.
