Definition
Ischigualastia is an extinct genus of dicynodont from the Late Triassic period. These animals were herbivorous synapsids, closely related to mammals. They are known from the Ischigualasto Formation in Argentina. Ischigualastia possessed tusks and a beak-like mouth. Consider it an ancient, tusked grazer. Studying Ischigualastia helps understand early mammal relatives.
