Karl von Frisch (1886-1982) was an Austrian ethologist who made significant contributions to our understanding of animal behavior. He's particularly famous for his work on honeybee communication. Frisch discovered that bees use intricate "dances" to convey information about the location and quality of food sources to other bees in the hive. He also demonstrated that bees can perceive polarized light and have color vision. His research provided invaluable insights into the complex social lives of insects. Frisch was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1973 for his groundbreaking discoveries.
