Definition
"Kwangtung" is an older romanization of "Guangdong," a province in southern China. While "Guangdong" is now the standard spelling, "Kwangtung" was commonly used in English before the adoption of pinyin. Think of it as a historical variation, like spelling "colour" with a 'u'. Itβs still occasionally seen in older texts, but "Guangdong" is preferred today. It sounds like something out of an old adventure novel.
