Lacrimal glands are located above the outer corner of each eye, and their main job is to produce tears. These tears keep the eyes moist, wash away debris, and provide lubrication to protect the cornea. Think of them as your eye's personal washing system. The tears also contain antibodies that fight infections. When you cry, your lacrimal glands become very active, and excess tears drain through ducts into your nasal passages, hence the runny nose!
