Definition
Lactic refers to something derived from or related to milk. Specifically, it often describes lactic acid, a byproduct of anaerobic respiration, which happens when your muscles don't get enough oxygen during intense exercise. This is what causes that burning sensation in your muscles when you push yourself hard. It's also used in food production, like in yogurt and cheese. It's a natural process, like fermentation, resulting in a tart, sour flavour.
