LASEK, or Laser-Assisted Sub-Epithelial Keratomileusis, is a type of refractive surgery to correct vision problems like nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. π€ It's similar to LASIK but involves a different method of preparing the corneal flap. Instead of cutting a thick flap, LASEK uses alcohol to loosen the surface cells (epithelium) of the cornea. The surgeon then reshapes the underlying cornea with a laser. Finally, the epithelial flap is repositioned. LASEK is often recommended for people with thin corneas or those prone to dry eyes. π It's like a gentler version of LASIK.
